When husband and wife John and Mary were made redundant from their jobs they did not bury their heads in the sand. The couple, who live with their two teenage children, actively looked for work and tried their best to keep up with household bills. Despite their best efforts the work did not come. The bills became unaffordable and a court summons was issued.
John and Mary took advice from DHA's Erewash service. The advisor worked closely with Erewash Borough Council's Housing Options Scheme to put a strong case together. This was then submitted to East Midlands Homes and the case became the first in the East Midlands to be accepted under the Mortgage Rescue Scheme, designed to prevent vulnerable families from losing their homes and experiencing the trauma of repossession.
